Berkshire Hathaway Stock Performance

Berkshire Hathaway Class A shares trade at $759,861.02, reflecting the company's status as the highest-priced stock on U.S. exchanges. The conglomerate maintains a market capitalization of approximately $1.07 trillion, per SID market data, firmly positioning it among the largest publicly traded companies globally. BRK-A exhibits a beta of 0.703, indicating materially lower volatility relative to the broader market, consistent with Berkshire's diversified portfolio of insurance, energy, railroad, and manufacturing businesses. Average daily trading volume stands at approximately 388 shares, according to Massive/Polygon data, reflecting the Class A shares' ultra-high per-share price that concentrates liquidity primarily in institutional and long-term holders. The stock's defensive characteristics, evidenced by its sub-1.0 beta, underscore Berkshire's historical role as a relative safe haven during periods of market stress, attracting capital from risk-averse allocators seeking broad economic exposure.

Berkshire Hathaway Valuation Analysis

Berkshire Hathaway trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 15.86, per SID market data, positioning it at a modest discount to the broader S&P 500 index. The company's price-to-book ratio stands at 1.53, according to SEC filings, which is notable given that Chairman Warren Buffett historically referenced book value as a key intrinsic value proxy, with buybacks typically authorized below 1.5 times book. The PEG ratio of 2.20 suggests the current earnings multiple is elevated relative to projected earnings growth, reflecting the mathematical challenge of growing a trillion-dollar enterprise at aggressive rates. Berkshire pays no dividend, instead directing capital toward acquisitions, equity investments, and share repurchases. Within the Financial Services sector, Berkshire's valuation metrics reflect its unique conglomerate structure, where significant unrealized investment gains and insurance float complicate traditional earnings-based comparisons with pure-play financial institutions.

Smart Money Activity for BRK-A

Berkshire Hathaway registers a composite smart money score of 46 out of 100 with a neutral signal, per SID market data, suggesting no decisive directional conviction among sophisticated market participants. The insider activity sub-score sits at 12.5 out of 25, reflecting limited insider transaction signals, which is consistent with Berkshire's concentrated insider ownership structure where Warren Buffett holds a substantial personal stake but engages in infrequent open-market transactions. Institutional positioning scores 13.0 out of 25, according to 13F institutional filings, indicating moderate but not aggressive institutional accumulation at current price levels. The dark pool activity sub-score of 8.5 out of 25 registers below average, potentially reflecting reduced off-exchange block trading given the Class A shares' exceptionally low average daily volume of 388 shares. Congressional trading activity scores 12 out of 25 per SEC Form 4 filings, showing middling legislative interest. The overall neutral reading suggests institutional holders are maintaining existing positions without material repositioning.

Berkshire Hathaway Earnings Outlook

Berkshire Hathaway has demonstrated a mixed but broadly positive earnings trajectory across recent quarters, per company earnings reports. The most recent quarter ending September 2025 showed earnings per share of $9,376.15, exceeding analyst estimates of $8,945.84 by $430.31, representing a 4.8% upside surprise. The December 2024 quarter delivered the strongest beat, with actual EPS of $10,102.07 surpassing the consensus estimate of $7,074.28 by $3,027.79, a 42.8% positive surprise driven largely by investment gains. However, the March 2025 quarter produced a notable miss, with EPS of $6,703.41 falling short of the $7,430.29 estimate by $726.87, according to analyst estimates. This earnings volatility reflects Berkshire's required mark-to-market accounting for equity portfolio gains and losses under GAAP, which Buffett has repeatedly noted distorts operating performance. The June 2025 quarter showed EPS of $7,759.58, essentially matching consensus expectations.

Wall Street Analyst Ratings for BRK-A

Wall Street coverage of Berkshire Hathaway Class A shares reflects a notably limited analyst universe relative to the company's trillion-dollar market capitalization. Per SID consensus data, the most recent available ratings include Morgan Stanley maintaining an Equal-Weight rating, most recently reiterated in August 2020, while UBS holds a Buy recommendation, last affirmed in May 2020, according to Wall Street analyst reports. The sparse and dated coverage reflects several structural factors unique to BRK-A: the ultra-high share price limits retail investor relevance, Berkshire does not conduct traditional earnings calls or provide forward guidance, and the company's conglomerate structure spans insurance, railroads, energy, and consumer goods, complicating single-sector analytical frameworks. Morgan Stanley's Equal-Weight stance suggests fair valuation at current levels, while UBS's Buy rating indicates perceived upside. The limited analyst engagement means institutional investors frequently rely on proprietary models rather than sell-side consensus when evaluating Berkshire's intrinsic value relative to its $1.07 trillion market capitalization.
