St George Mining CEO: Araxá permitting begins as company eyes Brazil rare earths hub

St George Mining Ltd (ASX:SGQ, FRA:S0G, OTC:SGQMF) executive chairman John Prineas spoke with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about progress at the Araxá Project in Brazil, including the start of environmental permitting, an expanded mineral resource and plans for a rare earths processing centre in Minas Gerais. Speaking from Brazil, where he is attending EXPOSIBRAM 2026, Prineas said St George has submitted an environmental impact assessment to authorities in Minas Gerais, formally launching the project's licensing process, with a construction licence targeted within 12 months. He also discussed the growing Araxá resource, now at 75.2 million tonnes in the measured and indicated categories: "We've now got the largest high grade carbonatite resource in South America." St George is finalising metallurgical test work before completing a feasibility study with Worley, expected to progress over the next six months. The interview also covered plans to move downstream through a proposed rare earths processing centre at the industrial complex in Uberlândia, developed in partnership with the government and Lima and Pergher, aimed at adding value to Araxá's product and supporting a Brazilian rare earths supply chain. Prineas said potential offtake partners in the US and Asia have shown interest both in Araxá's product and in supporting the processing centre with technology.
