Cummins Inc. is posting gains today, rising $15.25 as investors digest mixed signals around the company's recent earnings performance. While CMI has declined 15.3% since its last earnings report, today's move suggests some recovery momentum or positive repositioning by market participants.
Bottom line: CMI's 2.80% gain today offers only modest relief from the 15.3% post-earnings decline, suggesting the market's verdict on the company remains uncertain. In the second quarter of 2026, Caterpillar's retail sales to users in power generation surged 72% year-over-year, a pace that looks more like a high-growth tech supplier than a traditional industrial giant. This growth is not from traditional sources but from the immense energy needs of new data centers. Caterpillar is quietly becoming a critical infrastructure provider for cloud computing and generative AI.
